A sunlit terrace - Peel (Isle of Man)
33 x 50cm (unfframed)
This watercolour is based on a photo I took in Peel (Isle of Man). I'm not sure of the exact location but I suspect someone from the Isle of Man will be able to tell me!
The composition and colours appealed to me!
Cottage at Cregneash2 (Isle of Man)
33 x 46cm (unframed)
At the end of last month, I painted this cottage at Cregneash from the other side of the hill. This version shows the house from the side of the road which leads down to The Sound.
Westray Cottage
34 x 54cm (unframed)
I saw this old abandoned cottage on the Orkney island of Westray when on a trip there over a year ago. It was one of many in a whole cluster of abandoned buildings. Sad to see them deserted but they are full of interest to the artist (at least to me!!).
Peel Castle (Isle of Man)
32 x 44cm (unframed)
One of the Isle of Man's iconic ancient buildings!
Cottage in Agneash (Isle of Man)
33 x 52cm (unframed)
Cliff Rd. Hornsea
50 x 31cm (unframed)
I went out for a walk in Hornsea last week hoping to get some photos as reference for paintings. It was one of those days when nothing really stood out. I was nearly home when I saw this view (on Cliff Rd.). I'm pleased that I hadn't given up! 😊
This paintingwas featured in the August 2022 issue of LEISURE PAINTER magazine.
A House in Hornsea
(44 x 34cm - unframed)
Market Place, Hornsea
34 x 40cm (unframed)
This is my latest watercolour. It's Hornsea Market Place. I did a painting of part of this scene last year but when I looked at my photos again, I decided that I also liked this fuller version. The buildings are such interesting shapes & colours, especially in sunshine and with the shadows. There's more to Hornsea than the seafront, lovely though that is!!
Inspired by Hornsea23
33 x 46cm (unframed)
This is the back of the houses in my painting 'Hornsea Houses'.
The idea for the title is due to the church spire!!
'Supercharged' (New York)
32 x 42cm (unframed)
I've recently painted this cityscape from a photo I took when in New York in 2011. I was trying to get a photo of the buildings when there was a gap in the passing traffic. Lo and behold, just when I thought I had a chance to click the camera, the bus went past. I nearly deleted the photo. I'm now glad I didn't! Looking through my photos again, this composition, with the bus included, really appeals to me.
Laxey Cottages, Glen Rd. (Isle of Man)
31 x 42cm (unframed)
There are many white cottages on the Isle of Man. I love the way that sunlight and shadows bring them to life. I lived in Laxey for a while when on the Isle of Man.
The Old Mill
54 x 36cm (unframed)
I've recently spent quite a lot of time looking at abandoned buildings and old mills online. As a result, I put my laptop away and painted this from my imagination.

This view of a cottage at Port Lewaigue, Isle of Man, is typical of lovely Manx scenes.
The painting (framed) is 53 x 43cm and is ready to hang. It can be safely posted to you as it's framed with perspex, not glass!
Blue Louvre (Rome)

Window at the Mill
50 x 34cm (unframed)

50 x 34cm (unframed)
Salt's Mill 1, Saltaire
49 x 34cm (unframed)
Salt's Mill is a great place to visit. I went to see the David Hockney paintings exhibited in the MIll. I didn't expect to come across such wonderful surroundings, i.e. Saltaire, a village which is now a World Heritage Site. The art materials and books on sale in the Mill are a real bonus, not to mention two great places to eat. The Mill itself is a fascinating building!

Sunlit street - Peel (Isle of Man)

Blue House (Alnmouth)
43 x 32cm (unframed)
When I saw this blue house in Alnmouth (Northumberland) in the summer, I just had to take a photo. The house really is these amazing colours. This is just a small section of a photo I took but I'm glad that I experimented with cropping it. 🙂

Peel (Isle of Man)
33 x 45cm (unframed)
This is a watercolour of Peel (Isle of Man). It's painted from a photo that I took when visiting the Isle of Man last week. It's one of Britain's smallest cities but what it doesn't have in terms of size, it makes up for in character!

This watercolour is based on a photo I took when visiting Port Erin ((Isle of Man) in August. I was walking up the beach with my back to the sea and just had to take a photo. I loved the contrast in the buildings and what's more, Port Erin has a great beach, even if not in this painting!!

'Broken'
45 x 33cm (unframed)
Last week I posted this watercolour on Facebook. An artist in Canada saw it and was inspired to write the poem below:-
The Red Door by Trish Haugen
Broken windows in crumbling wall
Heralds the passing of time.
Shattered glass no longer impervious
To nature’s assault.
Plaster peels from its support
Revealing what is below.
Many footsteps have trodden upon
Those eight steps leading upward.
Worn.
Showing their age.
Memories of children racing
To be the first
To open
The Red Door.
Social Media at its creative best!

St Paul's Church, Ramsey
35 x 45cm
This is a watercolour of St Paul's Church, Ramsey, (Isle of Man).
I was vicar of this church from 1992-'99 and have done this painting because the church was 200 years old on 18 August (2022). I was invited back to join the celebrations. This is a gift for the present members. They were 8 very happy years of my life! 😀

Old abandoned buildings really appeal to me! I've spent the last few days working on this watercolour which is a scene from my imagination.
I plan to do a series: probably 10 paintings of abandoned places, whether real or imaginary. It feels like a bit of an adventure!🙂

Bankside building - Hull
36 x 55cm (unframed)
I've spent longer on this watercolour than almost any other that I've finished. It's not simply because it's one of the largest that I've done (36 x 55cm - unframed) but because there's a lot of detail that I gave attention to (e.g.bricks & windows!).
It's based on a building that I took a photo of on the Bankside industrial estate, Hull.
